This is the third Royal Hotel in Dungog.  The first was actually on another site to the one today and also known as the Tattersalls Club Rooms.

The second Royal Hotel was rumoured that a fire had caused severe damage although there is no record of the local Fire Brigade attending a fire at the Hotel at that time.

The 'old' building was demolished in March 1939 and the current Royal Hotel was finished in late October 1939 to quote 'The Dungog Chronicle.'

In about 1993 an entertainment room was added to the back of the Hotel which now is a great area for families to enjoy the back verandah with pool tables and games to play.
